Watercolor and Pen on Watercolor Paper | 18-28.5 x 20-28.5 in.
During my senior year of high school, I took AP Art. The second semester of this class was devoted to our personal Sustained Investigation – the in depth exploration of a topic, theme, or medium. For my investigation, I chose to create large watercolor pieces inspired by a style I found for myself that previous summer while in the drawing workshop at Skidmore. This style involves finding the shapes within figures, and using those to artistically render form. I focused on drawing people and characters, and accented my watercolors with drawings on top of them using an assortment of pens including Sharpies and metallic gel pens to accentuate the shapes I found in their skin.
In the spring of 2023, one of these paintings, "The Kiss" (top right corner), was accepted to be published in UVM's student-run literary and art journal, The Gist. Additionally, in the spring of 2024, another one of these paintings, "Wildflower Skin" (top left corner), was accepted to be displayed in a student-run exhibition at UVM called Brave Spaces.
